As part of improvement to the city centre we were asked to undertake various tree surgery works ranging from the removal of dead branches (deadwooding) to the removal of trees which posed a public risk.

Hazards and challenges included:

Large public presence within the vicinity of work area including a row of bus station shelters and properties adjacent to the trees. Due to the necessity to keep disruption to a minimum we undertook some works on the Sunday.

The project was successfully completed on schedule allowing continuation to the next phase of works.

We undertook the removal of trees identified as posing a hazard to the property and the main road below.

Hazards and challenges included:

Lifting the trees over the house, electric cables, BT lines and a new bus shelter; requirement for works to be completed to a tight deadline, during the designated power shutdown by Scottish Power; safe removal of long lengths of timber; traffic management, including a daytime closure of one section of the road.

This complex project was completed safely and within the timeframe of works.

Beech Tree at Sarnau alongside the A494
Client: Private

Our client was served with a notice from the North Wales Trunk Road Agency asking them to perform works on three large beech trees which were becoming a hazard to passing traffic.

Hazards and challenges included:

Narrow lane widths of the A494 and size of the trees.

A convoy system of works had to be used to maintain and ensure the safety of the workforce and the public. A small forwarding unit was needed to move the large pieces of timber from the two removed trees to the client’s house some 500 metres away.

The third tree was reduced and deadwooded to prolong its life alongside this busy road.
